Michael Bloomberg

Michael Bloomberg, born on February 14, 1942, is a prominent American businessman and politician, best known as the majority owner and co-founder of Bloomberg L.P. He served as the CEO of the company from 1981 to 2001 and again from 2014 to 2023. Bloomberg's career in public service includes his tenure as the 109th mayor of New York City from 2002 to 2013, during which he implemented a range of socially liberal and fiscally moderate policies.

Bloomberg's early life in Medford, Massachusetts, laid the foundation for his future success. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Business School, eventually starting his career at Salomon Brothers. In 1981, he founded Bloomberg L.P., a financial information and media firm renowned for its Bloomberg Terminal, which revolutionized the finance industry.

As mayor, Bloomberg was instrumental in establishing public charter schools, enhancing urban infrastructure, and advocating for gun control and public health initiatives. His leadership style was characterized by a technocratic approach, and he played a significant role in the city's recovery and growth following the September 11 attacks. Despite his accomplishments, he faced criticism for the controversial stop-and-frisk program, which he later apologized for.

In 2018, Bloomberg rejoined the Democratic Party and launched an ambitious campaign for the 2020 presidential nomination, self-funding a record-breaking nine hundred thirty-five million dollars. Although he ended his campaign in March 2020, his influence in politics and philanthropy remains significant, having donated seventeen billion four hundred million dollars to various causes. In 2024, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden.
