Michael Fortier

Michael M. Fortier, born on January 10, 1962, is a prominent Canadian lawyer, investment banker, and former politician. His career in public service is marked by significant roles within the Conservative Party, where he served as Minister of Public Works and Government Services from two thousand six to two thousand eight, and as Minister of International Trade in two thousand eight.

In two thousand six, Fortier was appointed to the Senate of Canada on the recommendation of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. This appointment was a notable achievement, reflecting his influence and standing within the party. However, his political journey took a turn when he resigned from the Senate to pursue a seat in the House of Commons during the two thousand eight federal election.
