Michael J. Adams

Michael J. Adams, born on May fifth, nineteen thirty, was a distinguished American aviator and aeronautical engineer. His career spanned various roles, including military officer, aircraft pilot, test pilot, and military flight engineer. Adams was a key figure in the United States Air Force and NASA's ambitious space exploration efforts.

Among his notable achievements, Adams was one of twelve pilots to fly the North American X-15, an experimental spaceplane that played a crucial role in advancing aerospace technology. His expertise and bravery were evident during his flights, particularly on November fifteenth, nineteen sixty-seven, when he piloted X-15 Flight 191.

During this historic flight, Adams reached an altitude exceeding fifty miles, thereby qualifying as an astronaut under the United States definition of the boundary of space. Tragically, moments after this milestone, the X-15-3 broke apart, resulting in Adams' untimely death and marking him as the first American space mission fatality.
