Michael López-Alegría

Michael López-Alegría, born on May 30, 1958, is a distinguished astronaut and test pilot, holding dual nationality as both an American and a Spaniard. His remarkable career includes participation in three Space Shuttle missions and a significant role in one International Space Station (ISS) mission.

Throughout his extensive career, López-Alegría has made a name for himself by completing ten spacewalks, a feat that places him second in all-time EVA duration records, and first among NASA astronauts. His impressive spaceflight experience includes a total of two hundred fifteen days spent in orbit, primarily aboard the ISS from September 18, 2006, to April 21, 2007.

In a groundbreaking achievement, he commanded Axiom-1, the first all-private team of commercial astronauts to embark on a mission to the ISS. This historic flight launched on April 8, 2022, and marked a significant milestone in the evolution of commercial space travel, with the crew spending just over seventeen days in Earth's orbit.
