Michael Mullen, born on October fourth, nineteen forty-six, is a distinguished retired United States Navy admiral who made significant contributions to military leadership during his extensive career. He served as the seventeenth chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from October two thousand seven to September two thousand eleven, a role that positioned him as the highest-ranking officer in the United States Armed Forces.

Before his tenure as chairman, Mullen held several key positions within the Navy. He was the thirty-second vice chief of naval operations from August two thousand three to August two thousand four. Following this, he commanded both the United States Naval Forces Europe and Africa, as well as the Allied Joint Force Command Naples, from October two thousand four to May two thousand five.

From July two thousand five until September two thousand seven, Mullen served as the Navy's twenty-eighth chief of naval operations. His leadership was marked by efforts to diversify the top ranks of the Pentagon, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and modernization within the military.

After over forty-two years of dedicated service, Mullen retired from the Navy. Since two thousand twelve, he has shared his expertise as a visiting professor at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, continuing to influence future leaders in public service and military strategy.
