Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Michael Patrick Ryan

Michael Patrick Ryan, born on September twenty-ninth, eighteen twenty-five, in Pallis, Donohill, County Tipperary, Ireland, was a prominent figure in Canadian politics and business. He immigrated to Lower Canada with his family in eighteen forty, eventually settling near Chambly before establishing himself as a merchant in Montreal.

Ryan's political career began in earnest when he was elected to the Montreal city council in eighteen fifty-two. His commitment to public service extended beyond local governance; he served as a captain in the local militia and was an active member of the Council of the Board of Trade in Montreal. His influence grew when he was appointed as a director for the Montreal, Ottawa and Occidental Railway.

In April eighteen sixty-eight, following the tragic assassination of fellow Liberal-Conservative Member of Parliament Thomas D'Arcy McGee, Ryan was chosen to contest the subsequent by-election. His candidacy was unopposed, leading to his election to the House of Commons by acclamation, where he represented Montreal West and later Montreal Centre from eighteen seventy-two to eighteen seventy-four and again from eighteen seventy-nine to eighteen eighty-two.

After retiring from business in eighteen seventy-five, Ryan continued to serve his community. In eighteen eighty-two, he was appointed customs collector at Montreal, a position he held until his passing in January eighteen ninety-three.
