Micheal Ray Richardson

Micheal Ray Richardson, born on April 11, 1955, is a former professional basketball player and coach known for his dynamic play on the court. Over the course of his eight-year NBA career, he showcased his talents with the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors, and New Jersey Nets. Richardson earned recognition as a four-time NBA All-Star and was selected to the NBA All-Defensive First Team twice, highlighting his prowess in both offensive and defensive play.

Richardson's career was marked by his exceptional ability to steal the ball, leading the league in steals for three seasons. His skills and contributions to the game made him a standout player during his time in the NBA. However, his career took a dramatic turn in 1986 when he was banned for life by NBA commissioner David Stern after testing positive for cocaine for the third time in three seasons, making him the first active player to receive such a ban.

After being reinstated by the NBA in 1988, Richardson chose to continue his basketball journey in Europe, opting not to return to the NBA. His passion for the game led him to transition into coaching, where he took on roles in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada), sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of players.
