Michel Hrynchyshyn

The Rt Revd Michel Hrynchyshyn C.Ss.R. was a prominent figure in the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, serving as the apostolic exarch for the regions of France, Benelux, and Switzerland. Born on 18 February 1929 in Buchanan, Saskatchewan, he dedicated his life to the service of the Church and its community.

Consecrated as a bishop on 30 January 1983, Hrynchyshyn's leadership was marked by his appointment by Pope John Paul II on 21 October 1982. His tenure as apostolic exarch lasted until his resignation in 2012, during which he played a crucial role in guiding the Ukrainian Catholic faithful in Western Europe.

In addition to his pastoral duties, Hrynchyshyn was an advisor to the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, contributing his expertise to the broader Catholic community. He was also a member of Le conseil d'Eglises chrétiennes en France (CECEF), reflecting his commitment to ecumenical dialogue and cooperation among Christian denominations.
