Michel Mayor

Michel Mayor, born on January twelfth, nineteen forty-two, is a distinguished Swiss astrophysicist and professor emeritus at the University of Geneva's Department of Astronomy. Although he officially retired in two thousand seven, he continues to contribute actively as a researcher at the Observatory of Geneva, demonstrating his enduring passion for the cosmos.

In collaboration with Didier Queloz, Mayor made a groundbreaking discovery in nineteen ninety-five when they identified 51 Pegasi b, the first extrasolar planet orbiting a sun-like star. This monumental achievement earned them the prestigious Nobel Prize in Physics in two thousand nineteen, recognizing their significant contributions to our understanding of the universe's evolution and Earth's position within it.

Mayor's insights into the vastness of space have led him to express skepticism about the feasibility of human migration to distant exoplanets, noting that such journeys would take hundreds of millions of days with current technology.
