His career took off in two thousand sixteen with Cortuluá, where he emerged as the league's top scorer, netting nineteen goals. This success led him to Atlético Nacional, where he became a key player, contributing significantly to their Copa Libertadores victory that same year. His outstanding performances earned him the title of South American Footballer of the Year.

In two thousand seventeen, Borja made a notable transfer to Brazilian club Palmeiras, where he celebrated winning the Brasileirão in the following season. His journey continued in two thousand twenty-two when he joined River Plate in Argentina, securing multiple titles, including the Primera División championship in two thousand twenty-three.

At the youth level, Borja was instrumental in Colombia's triumph at the two thousand thirteen South American Youth Football Championship.
