Mihailo Obrenović, born on September fourth, eighteen twenty-three, was a pivotal figure in Serbian history, serving as the ruling Prince of Serbia during two significant periods: from eighteen thirty-nine to eighteen forty-two and again from eighteen sixty to eighteen sixty-eight.
His first reign was abruptly cut short in eighteen forty-two when he was deposed, but he returned to power in eighteen sixty. Unfortunately, his second tenure was marred by tragedy, as he was assassinated in eighteen sixty-eight.
Recognized as a great reformer, Mihailo is often hailed as the most enlightened ruler of modern Serbia, embodying the ideals of European enlightened absolute monarchs. His leadership was marked by significant achievements, including the successful negotiation for the withdrawal of Ottoman troops from Serbian territory while maintaining certain ties to Constantinople.
