Mike Belkin

Michael I. Belkin, born on June 29, 1945, is celebrated as a former Canadian No. 1 tennis player, a title he held five times between 1966 and 1972. His impressive career includes a Davis Cup record of seventeen wins and twelve losses, with fourteen of those victories coming in singles matches.

During the early 1960s, Belkin achieved a remarkable career-high singles ranking of seventh in the world among amateur players. As he transitioned to the professional tour later in his career, he maintained a balanced win-loss record of thirty-six wins and thirty-six losses in singles.

Belkin's notable performances include reaching the quarter-finals at the 1968 Australian Championships, where he faced off against top seed William Bowrey. He also made a commendable third-round appearance in singles during his first Wimbledon tournament.

Throughout his career, Belkin claimed victories in several prestigious ILTF tournaments, including the Western Championships in Indianapolis in 1967 and the St. Petersburg Masters Invitational in 1968 and 1971. Additionally, he triumphed at the Detroit Invitation in both 1965 and 1967, and secured a win at the Buffalo Indoor in 1973.

His competitive spirit shone through in semi-final appearances at the Cincinnati Masters event and the Canadian Open in 1969, further solidifying his status as one of Canada's top tennis players.
