Mike Greenlay

Michael R. Greenlay, born on September 15, 1968, in Vitória, Brazil, is a former ice hockey goaltender who made significant contributions to the sport during his career. Raised in Calgary, Alberta, Greenlay's journey in hockey began at a young age, leading him to be selected one hundred eighty-ninth overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft after showcasing his talent with the Calgary AAA Midgets.

Greenlay's collegiate career at Lake Superior State was marked by notable achievements, including being part of the 1988 NCAA Championship men's ice hockey team. His transition to professional hockey saw him leave the Lakers early in the 1988–89 season to join the WHL's Saskatoon Blades, where he played a pivotal role in leading the team to the Memorial Cup final, earning accolades as the tournament's top goaltender and an all-star.

Although his time with the Edmonton Oilers was brief, playing in two games during the 1989–90 season, Greenlay found success in the AHL with the Cape Breton Oilers and later in the ECHL and IHL. His career highlights include sharing the James Norris Memorial Trophy in 1994 for allowing the fewest goals in the IHL and leading all post-season goalies in wins, contributing to the Atlanta Knights' victory in the Turner Cup that same year.

After retiring from professional play early in the 1995–96 season, Greenlay transitioned to a career in broadcasting, providing color commentary for the Minnesota Wild until 2020, when his contract came to an end. His journey from a promising amateur player to a respected commentator reflects his deep connection to the sport of ice hockey.
