Mike Rutherford

Mike Rutherford, born on October second, nineteen fifty, is an esteemed English guitarist, bassist, and songwriter, renowned for his pivotal role as a co-founder and lead guitarist of the iconic rock band Genesis. Alongside keyboardist Tony Banks, he remains one of the band's two continuous members, contributing significantly to their enduring legacy.

Initially, Rutherford took on the responsibilities of bass guitarist and backing vocalist for Genesis, while also performing the majority of the band's rhythm guitar parts, often on twelve-string guitar. His collaboration with lead guitarists Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett was instrumental in shaping the band's sound. Following Hackett's departure in nineteen seventy-seven, Rutherford expanded his role to include lead guitarist on the band's studio albums, starting with the critically acclaimed ...And Then There Were Three... in nineteen seventy-eight.

Throughout his career, Rutherford emerged as one of Genesis's primary songwriters, crafting the lyrics for some of their most celebrated international hits, including "Follow You Follow Me," "Turn It On Again," "Land of Confusion," and "Throwing It All Away." His contributions to the music industry were recognized when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in two thousand ten.

Beyond his work with Genesis, Rutherford ventured into solo projects, releasing two albums in the early nineteen eighties. In nineteen eighty-five, he founded Mike + the Mechanics, a band that achieved chart-topping success and became a formidable live act. The group garnered Rutherford an Ivor Novello Award for the hit single "The Living Years" in nineteen eighty-eight, along with two Grammy nominations, further solidifying his status as a prominent figure in the music world.
