Mike Simpson, born on September eighth, nineteen fifty, is a prominent American politician and dentist, currently serving as the U.S. representative for Idaho's 2nd congressional district since nineteen ninety-nine. His district encompasses a significant portion of eastern Idaho, including key cities such as Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Sun Valley, Twin Falls, and the northern two-thirds of Boise.
A member of the Republican Party, Simpson's political career began in nineteen eighty-four when he first entered public office. He was elected to the House of Representatives in the elections of nineteen ninety-eight, succeeding Mike Crapo. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he held the position of Speaker of the Idaho House of Representatives from nineteen ninety-two to nineteen ninety-eight.
Regarded as a moderate within his party, Simpson has taken stances that reflect a more centrist approach. He supports the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and advocates for work visas for undocumented immigrants in the agricultural sector. Notably, he was one of the eighteen Republicans who opposed Jim Jordan's nomination for Speaker of the House on all three occasions.
