Stern's career took a significant turn when he joined the ranks of trumpeter Miles Davis, performing with him from 1981 to 1983 and again in 1985.

Following his time with Davis, Stern embarked on a successful solo career, releasing over twenty albums that showcase his unique style and virtuosity.
