Mike Waltz

Mike Waltz, born on January 31, 1974, is a distinguished American politician and former Army Special Forces officer who has made significant contributions to national security and diplomacy. He currently serves as the 32nd United States ambassador to the United Nations, a position he has held since September 2025 in the second Trump Administration. A member of the Republican Party, Waltz previously held the role of national security advisor for a brief period in early 2025 and represented Florida's 6th congressional district from 2019 to 2025.

Waltz's military career is marked by his service in the Special Forces, where he earned four Bronze Stars during multiple combat tours across Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa. His expertise in defense policy was further honed during his tenure in the Bush administration, where he served as a defense policy director at the Pentagon and as a counterterrorism advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney.

In 2018, Waltz made history by becoming the first Army Special Forces soldier elected to Congress, defeating former ambassador Nancy Soderberg. He was re-elected in subsequent elections in twenty twenty, twenty-two, and twenty-four, consistently securing over sixty percent of the vote. As chair of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness during the 118th United States Congress, he was recognized as one of Congress's most hawkish members regarding China, advocating for a strong stance against the Chinese Communist Party.

Waltz was notably the first member of Congress to advocate for a complete U.S. boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, citing the CCP's human rights abuses against Uyghur populations. His brief tenure as national security advisor lasted only one hundred one days, making it the second shortest in history for a non-acting officeholder. Following his resignation, he was nominated by President Trump to serve as Ambassador to the United Nations, succeeding Elise Stefanik.
