Mike Woodson

Mike Woodson, born on March twenty-four, nineteen fifty-eight, is a distinguished American basketball coach and former player, currently serving as the associate head coach of the Sacramento Kings in the NBA. His basketball journey began at Indiana University, where he played under the legendary coach Bob Knight from nineteen seventy-six to nineteen eighty. As a junior, he captained the Hoosiers to victory in the nineteen seventy-nine NIT Tournament and earned a spot on the first team All-Big Ten.

In the summer of nineteen seventy-nine, Woodson showcased his leadership skills by captaining the United States basketball team to a gold medal at the Pan American Games. His senior year was equally impressive, as he and teammate Isiah Thomas led the Hoosiers to a conference title and a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Woodson's accolades include being named the Big Ten Player of the Year in nineteen eighty, an NABC All-American, and receiving the Chicago Tribune Silver Basketball. He ranks fifth all-time in total points among Hoosier players, with an impressive average of nineteen point eight points per game.

Following his collegiate success, Woodson was drafted as the twelfth pick in the nineteen eighty NBA draft by the New York Knicks, where he began an eleven-season professional career. He also played for several other teams, including the New Jersey Nets, Kansas City/Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, and Cleveland Cavaliers, participating in thirteen playoff games over five post-seasons.

Transitioning to coaching, Woodson has worked with seven different NBA franchises. His coaching career includes assistant roles with the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers, and New York Knicks. Notably, he won an NBA Championship with the Pistons in the two thousand three to four season under coach Larry Brown. Woodson later served as head coach for the Atlanta Hawks for six years, achieving playoff appearances in his last three seasons and ranking fourth in franchise history with two hundred six career wins. He also spent three seasons as head coach of the New York Knicks, leading the team to two playoff appearances and securing an Atlantic Division title.
