Milan Bandić

Milan Bandić, born on November twenty-second, nineteen fifty-five, was a prominent Croatian politician who served as the longest-serving mayor of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. His tenure spanned from two thousand to twenty twenty-one, with interruptions due to a resignation in two thousand two and a suspension following a corruption scandal in two thousand fourteen. Bandić's political journey began in the early nineteen eighties, rising through the ranks of the League of Communists of Croatia and later the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he became a city councillor in nineteen ninety-five and president of the SDP's Zagreb branch in nineteen ninety-seven.

In the wake of the Zagreb crisis from nineteen ninety-five to nineteen ninety-seven, Bandić emerged as a key opposition figure against the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) administration. His political career took a significant turn in two thousand when he won the mayoral election with the SDP, securing a plurality of twenty percent of the vote. Over the years, he would serve five additional terms, although his political journey was marred by controversies, including his expulsion from the SDP in two thousand nine for running against the party's candidate in the presidential election.

Throughout his mayoralty, Bandić was known for his direct and centralized governance style, often announcing ambitious infrastructure projects aimed at improving the city.
