Milan Milutinović

Milan Milutinović, born on December nineteenth, nineteen forty-two, was a prominent Serbian politician and diplomat. He held the esteemed position of President of Serbia from nineteen ninety-seven until two thousand two, during a tumultuous period in the region's history.

Before ascending to the presidency, Milutinović made significant contributions to Serbian education and culture. He served as the Secretary for Education and Science of Serbia from nineteen seventy-seven to nineteen eighty-two and later directed the National Library of Serbia from nineteen eighty-three to nineteen eighty-seven. His diplomatic career began in earnest when he was appointed as the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia to Greece, a role he fulfilled from nineteen eighty-nine to nineteen ninety-five.

In the mid-nineties, Milutinović transitioned to a more prominent role in foreign affairs, serving as Yugoslavia's Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs from nineteen ninety-five to nineteen ninety-seven. His presidency concluded in December two thousand two, after which he faced serious legal challenges.

Following his presidential term, Milutinović surrendered to the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, where he was tried for war crimes. Ultimately, he was acquitted of all charges on February twenty-six, two thousand nine, marking a significant moment in his controversial legacy.
