Miloš Obrenović

Miloš Obrenović I, born Miloš Teodorović on March 18, 1780, emerged as a pivotal figure in Serbian history. He served as the Prince of Serbia during two significant periods: from 1815 to 1839 and again from 1858 until his death in 1860. His leadership was instrumental in the First and Second Serbian uprisings, marking him as a revolutionary leader and the founder of the Obrenović dynasty.

Under Miloš's rule, Serbia transitioned into an autonomous principality within the Ottoman Empire. His governance style was characterized by autocracy, as he consistently resisted calls for decentralization of power, which led to the rise of strong internal opposition. Despite his humble beginnings, he amassed considerable wealth, becoming the most affluent individual in Serbia and one of the richest in the Balkans.

Miloš's financial success was bolstered by his strategic acquisitions, including estates and ships from the Ottomans, alongside his ventures in trade. His properties spanned across Vienna, Serbia, and Wallachia, showcasing his significant influence and status in the region.
