Mina Shum, born in nineteen sixty-six, is a distinguished independent filmmaker from Canada, celebrated for her compelling storytelling and unique cinematic vision. As a writer and director, she has crafted award-winning feature films and numerous short films, showcasing her versatility across various mediums, including site-specific installations and theatre.
Her notable feature films, 'Double Happiness' and 'Long Life, Happiness & Prosperity,' both made their U.S. debuts at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. 'Double Happiness' garnered critical acclaim, winning the Wolfgang Staudte Prize for Best First Feature at the Berlin Film Festival, as well as the Audience Award at the Torino Film Festival, solidifying her reputation in the film industry.
In addition to her film work, Shum has contributed to the arts as a director resident at the Canadian Film Centre in Toronto, where she honed her craft and inspired emerging filmmakers.
