Mirai Nagasu, born on April 16, 1993, is a distinguished American former competitive figure skater known for her remarkable achievements on the ice. She made history in 2008 by becoming the youngest woman since Tara Lipinski in 1997 to win the U.S. senior ladies' title, and at that time, she was the second-youngest in history. Her talent was evident early on, as she also secured the junior national title in consecutive years, a feat last accomplished by Joan Tozzer in 1937 and 1938.
Throughout her career, Nagasu has represented the United States with pride, notably competing at the 2010 Winter Olympics at just sixteen years old, where she placed fourth in the ladies' event. Her journey continued to shine as she became a three-time Four Continents medalist, earning silver in 2016 and bronze in both 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she was crowned the champion of the 2007 JGP Final and is a two-time World Junior medalist, having won silver in 2007 and bronze in 2008.
In 2017, Nagasu made headlines by landing the challenging triple Axel jump for the first time in international competition at the CS U.S. Classic. Her crowning achievement came during the team event at the 2018 Winter Olympics, where she became the first American ladies' singles skater to successfully land a triple Axel at the Olympics, making her the third woman globally to achieve this milestone. Furthermore, she became the first senior ladies skater to execute eight clean triple jumps in international competition, showcasing her extraordinary skill and determination.
