Mirela Rahneva

Mirela Rahneva, born on July twenty-six, nineteen eighty-eight, is a distinguished Canadian skeleton racer and former rugby sevens player. Her journey began when her family immigrated to Canada in nineteen ninety-seven, bringing with them a rich athletic heritage. Her father, Stoyan, was a competitive gymnast, while her mother excelled as an elite sprinter, setting the stage for Mirela's own athletic pursuits.

Rahneva's athletic career took root in high school, where she showcased her talents in rugby before continuing her passion at the University of Guelph. In two thousand twelve, she transitioned to skeleton racing, a decision that would lead her to remarkable achievements in the sport. By two thousand sixteen, her dedication and skill earned her a spot on the Canadian national team, marking a significant milestone in her career.

Under the guidance of coach Quin Sekulich, Rahneva competes using a Bromley sled, a testament to her commitment to excellence. Her hard work paid off when she was selected as one of three women to represent Canada in skeleton at the twenty eighteen Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, following an impressive eighth place finish in the World Cup season standings for two thousand seventeen to eighteen.

In January two thousand twenty-two, Rahneva's Olympic journey continued as she was named to Canada's team for the upcoming Olympic Games, further solidifying her status as a prominent figure in the world of skeleton racing.
