Mirwais Hotak

Mirwais Hotak, born in 1673, emerged as a pivotal figure in Afghan history, known for his role as a politician and the founder of the Hotak dynasty. He hailed from the Hotak sub-tribe of the Ghilji tribe of Pashtuns, rooted in the region of Kandahar, Afghanistan.

In the year 1709, Mirwais Hotak made a significant mark by overthrowing and assassinating George XI of Kartil, the Safavid Persian governor. This bold act led him to declare the independence of the Loy Kandahar region, which is now recognized as southern Afghanistan.

Mirwais is affectionately referred to as Mirwais Nikə, meaning 'Mirwais the Grandfather' in Pashto, and Mirwais Baba, a title that reflects his esteemed status among the people. His legacy continues to resonate in Afghan history, symbolizing the struggle for autonomy and leadership.
