Mo Farah

Mo Farah, born Hussein Abdi Kahin on March 23, 1983, in the Somali Democratic Republic, is a celebrated British former long-distance runner. Renowned as one of the greatest athletes in the history of the sport, he has amassed an impressive collection of global championship gold medals, including four Olympic and six World titles. This remarkable achievement makes him the most successful male track distance runner and the most accomplished British athlete in Olympic history.

Farah's Olympic triumphs came in the 2012 and 2016 Games, where he secured gold medals in both the 5,000 m and 10,000 m events. He is only the second athlete, following Lasse Virén, to achieve this feat at consecutive Olympics. Additionally, he completed the 'distance double' at the World Championships in Athletics in 2013 and 2015, becoming the first man to defend both titles in major global competitions, a remarkable accomplishment dubbed the 'quadruple-double.'

His competitive career spanned distances from 1,500 m to the marathon, with a notable victory in the 2018 Chicago Marathon, where he set a European record with a time of two hours, five minutes, and eleven seconds. Farah's running style is characterized by a tactical approach, often employing a quick sprint finish that has proven decisive in many races. His ability to maintain a strong pace before unleashing a blistering final sprint has set him apart from his competitors.

Farah's journey to success was not without challenges. Trafficked to London at the age of nine, he initially lived under the name Mohamed Farah, which he later adopted as his own. He did not disclose his past as a trafficking victim until 2022. Despite these hardships, he trained diligently with the Newham and Essex Beagles athletics club and honed his skills at St Mary's University College, Twickenham, from 2001 to 2011.

In addition to his athletic achievements, Farah holds several records, including the one-hour run and the European record for the outdoor 10,000 m. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2017, and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2013.
