His expertise in governance continued as he took on the role of Speaker of the Folketing during Helle Thorning Schmidt's cabinet from two thousand eleven to two thousand fifteen.

In June two thousand fifteen, he was unanimously elected as the President of the United Nations General Assembly, presiding over the seventieth session that commenced on September fifteenth, two thousand fifteen, marking a significant milestone in his diplomatic career.
