Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, born on March 11, 1961, is a prominent Emirati royal and politician who has held the esteemed position of the third president of the United Arab Emirates and the ruler of Abu Dhabi since 2022. He is the third son of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first president of the UAE, and has played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s political landscape.

His educational journey began in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, culminating in his graduation from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1979. Following his education, Mohamed joined the UAE Armed Forces, where he ascended through various ranks, ultimately becoming a pilot in the UAE Air Force and achieving the rank of general in two thousand five.

In 2004, after the passing of his father, Mohamed was appointed crown prince of Abu Dhabi, while his brother, Sheikh Khalifa, became the second president of the UAE. Following Sheikh Khalifa's stroke in two thousand fourteen, Mohamed effectively took on the role of de facto president. His official presidency commenced in May two thousand twenty-two after the death of his brother, marking a significant transition in UAE leadership.

Under his leadership, the UAE has been characterized as an authoritarian capitalist state, with Mohamed being recognized as one of the most powerful Arab rulers. His foreign policy has been marked by opposition to the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran, and he has been a key player in various regional conflicts, including the war against ISIS and the Yemeni civil war. His close ties with the United States, particularly during the Trump administration, have influenced significant diplomatic agreements, including the Abraham Accords.
