Mohammad Javad Zarif, born on January seventh, nineteen sixty, is a distinguished Iranian career diplomat and academic. He has held numerous significant positions throughout his career, including serving as the vice president for strategic affairs from August twenty twenty-four to March twenty twenty-five. Zarif is perhaps best known for his role as Iran's foreign minister from two thousand thirteen until two thousand twenty-one under President Hassan Rouhani.

During his tenure as foreign minister, Zarif was instrumental in leading negotiations with the P5+1 countries, culminating in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on July fourteenth, two thousand fifteen. This landmark agreement resulted in the lifting of economic sanctions against Iran on January sixteenth, two thousand sixteen. Although he resigned from his position in February two thousand nineteen, his resignation was ultimately rejected by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, allowing him to continue in his role.

Zarif's extensive diplomatic experience includes serving as the Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations from two thousand two to two thousand seven. He has also held various advisory roles, including senior advisor to the Foreign Minister and Deputy Foreign Minister in Legal and International Affairs.
