Mohammad Qasim Fahim

Mohammad Qasim Fahim, born on January first, nineteen fifty-seven, was a prominent Afghan military commander and politician. He held the esteemed position of the second Marshal of Afghanistan and served as Vice President from June two thousand two until December two thousand four, and again from November two thousand nine until his passing in two thousand fourteen. His influence was particularly notable during the Karzai Administration, where he was recognized as a powerful figure.

Affiliated with Ahmad Shah Massoud's Jamiat Islami (Shura-e Nazar) party, Fahim played a crucial role in the military campaign that led to the capture of Kabul in the fall of two thousand one, effectively toppling the Taliban government as a commander of the Northern Alliance. Following this victory, he was appointed as the Defense Minister under the Afghan Transitional Administration, serving from December two thousand one to December two thousand four.

In two thousand four, President Hamid Karzai honored Fahim with the title of Marshal, a recognition of his significant contributions to the nation. The following year, he became a member of the House of Elders and was later awarded the Ahmad Shah Baba Medal for his service. His death in two thousand fourteen was met with national mourning, as the president declared three days of remembrance in honor of his legacy.
