Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Mohammad Shah Qajar

Mohammad Shah Qajar, born on January fifth, eighteen oh eight, was the third Qajar shah of Iran, reigning from eighteen thirty-four until eighteen forty-eight. He ascended the throne following the death of his grandfather, Fath-Ali Shah. Under the guidance of Haji Mirza Aqasi, a local dervish from Tabriz, Mohammad Mirza developed a deep interest in Sufism, which would later influence his rule as a Sufi-king.

After the passing of his father, Abbas Mirza, in eighteen thirty-three, Mohammad Mirza was appointed crown prince and governed Azarbaijan. Upon Fath-Ali Shah's death, he faced challenges from rival claimants to the throne, including Hossein Ali Mirza and Ali Mirza Zel as-Soltan. Demonstrating his resolve, Mohammad Shah swiftly quelled these uprisings and established his authority.

His reign was marked by significant political maneuvers, including the dismissal and execution of his premier, Abol-Qasem Qa'em-Maqam, in favor of his mentor, Haji Mirza Aqasi. One of his primary objectives was to reassert control over the rebellious city of Herat, leading to a failed siege in eighteen thirty-seven, which ended due to British threats of invasion. He also faced internal dissent, notably suppressing a revolt in Isfahan led by the influential cleric Mohammad Bagher Shafti.

Despite his efforts, Mohammad Shah's reign was overshadowed by health issues, particularly gout, which ultimately contributed to his death on September fourth, eighteen forty-eight, at the age of forty. He was interred at the Fatima Masumeh Shrine in Qom and succeeded by his son, Naser al-Din Shah. His legacy is often viewed critically, as he was seen as a figurehead for Aqasi, with a corrupt administration that favored Sufi allies.
