Mohammad Shtayyeh, born on January 17, 1958, is a prominent Palestinian politician, economist, and writer. He served as the Prime Minister of Palestine from 2019 until his resignation on February 26, 2024, remaining in a demissionary capacity until a new government was formed on March 31, 2024. His political career is marked by a strong alignment with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
In addition to his role as Prime Minister, Shtayyeh has been an influential figure within the Fatah party, having been elected to its Central Committee in both 2009 and 2016. His commitment to economic development was evident when he was appointed as the minister of the Palestinian Economic Council for Development and Reconstruction (PECDAR) in 1996, overseeing a public investment fund valued at one point six billion dollars.
