Mohsen Makhmalbaf

Mohsen Makhmalbaf, born on May 29, 1957, is a prominent Iranian filmmaker and writer known for his significant contributions to cinema. With a career spanning several decades, he has directed over twenty feature films and garnered fifty prestigious awards, establishing himself as a key figure in the new wave movement of Iranian cinema.

His acclaimed works include the thought-provoking films 'A Moment of Innocence' released in 1996 and 'Kandahar,' which was recognized by Time as one of the top one hundred films of all time in 2001. Makhmalbaf's latest projects include the documentary 'The Gardener' and the feature film 'The President.'

Since the early twenty-first century, Makhmalbaf's films have been showcased at numerous international film festivals, reflecting his global influence. In 2006, he served as a juror at the Venice Film Festival, further solidifying his status in the film community.
