Mona Latif-Ghattas

Mona Latif-Ghattas, an Egyptian-born Canadian writer, was a vibrant literary figure who made her home in Montreal, Quebec. Born in Cairo on August seventh, nineteen forty-six, she embarked on a journey that would see her leave Egypt in nineteen sixty-six, ultimately pursuing her passion for the arts in Canada. She studied theatre at the Université du Québec à Montréal and later earned a master's degree in drama from the Université de Montréal, laying a strong foundation for her multifaceted career.

Latif-Ghattas published her first novel, Nicolas, le fils du Nil, in nineteen eighty-five, marking the beginning of her literary contributions. She followed this with her first poetry collection, La triste beauté du monde, in nineteen ninety-three, and in nineteen ninety-six, she released a collection of short stories titled Les lunes de miel. Her works have graced the pages of esteemed journals such as Humanitas, Pratiques Théâtrales, and La Nouvelle Barre du jour, showcasing her versatility as a writer.

Her poetry collection, Ambre et lumière, earned her the prestigious Prix du Salon international des poètes francophones, highlighting her impact on the literary community. Latif-Ghattas was known for her ability to write in both French and Arabic, bridging cultures through her words and stories.

Sadly, Mona Latif-Ghattas passed away on December twenty-fourth, twenty twenty-one, at the age of seventy-five, leaving behind a rich legacy of literature that continues to inspire readers and writers alike.
