Monroe Abbey

From nineteen sixty-eight to nineteen seventy-one, Abbey served as the president of The Canadian Jewish Congress, a role that underscored his commitment to advocating for Jewish interests and community welfare. In his personal life, Monroe Abbey was married to Minnie Cummings, who hailed from a notable family. Among her siblings were Nathan Cummings and Maxwell Cummings, both of whom were influential figures in their own right. Their daughter, Sheila Finestone, followed in her father's footsteps, becoming a Member of Parliament and later a Senator.

In recognition of his tireless efforts and contributions, Abbey was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in nineteen seventy-eight.
