His journey in basketball began at the collegiate level, where he played for the Louisville Cardinals. During his junior year in two thousand fifteen, he earned the prestigious Karl Malone Award, recognizing him as the top power forward in the nation.

In the two thousand fifteen NBA draft, Harrell was selected in the second round by the Houston Rockets, marking the beginning of his professional career. His trajectory took a significant turn in two thousand seventeen when he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. It was with the Clippers that he truly shone, being honored as the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in two thousand twenty, a testament to his impactful performance off the bench.
