Hailing from Nova Scotia, Barron developed his passion for the sport at a young age, playing two seasons of minor ice hockey with the Newbridge Academy Gladiators in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League (NSMMHL).

After his formative years in Nova Scotia, Barron took a significant step in his career by enrolling at St. Andrew's College in Ontario. His dedication and performance on the ice led him to Cornell University, where he played college ice hockey.
