With a robust background in political advisory roles, she currently serves as a senior policy adviser at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. A member of the Republican Party, Ortagus has held significant positions, including deputy special presidential envoy to the Middle East in twenty twenty-five and spokesperson for the United States Department of State from twenty nineteen to twenty twenty-one.
Her career in government commenced as a deputy attaché and intelligence analyst at the United States Department of the Treasury, followed by her role as a public affairs officer at USAID. Ortagus also contributed to national security discussions as a contributor at Fox News before her appointment as State Department spokesperson. Since two thousand fourteen, she has served as an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve.
