He was instrumental in the creation of 'Teutsche Ornithologie oder Naturgeschichte aller Vögel Teutschlands in naturgetreuen Abbildungen und Beschreibungen,' a significant work by Johann Conrad Susemihl that showcased the avian diversity of Germany.
Borkhausen's academic journey began in Giessen, where he received his education. In seventeen ninety-six, he embarked on a professional path as an assessor at the forestry office in Darmstadt, marking the start of his impactful career in natural sciences. By eighteen hundred, he had earned the title of Kammerrat, a testament to his expertise and dedication.
His role evolved further in eighteen oh four when he became a counselor at the Oberforsthaus Collegium, where he continued to influence forestry practices and natural history. As a botanist, Borkhausen made significant taxonomic contributions, authoring classifications for the Alliaceae and Asclepiadaceae families and circumscribing numerous plant genera and species, thereby enriching the botanical literature of his time.
