Morris Chang, born on July 10, 1931, is a prominent Taiwanese billionaire business executive and electrical engineer, renowned for founding the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). His leadership as CEO from 1987 to 2005 and as chairman until 2018 has been pivotal in shaping the semiconductor industry in Taiwan and globally.

Chang's journey began in China, where he was born, before moving to Hong Kong and later immigrating to the United States. He pursued higher education at Harvard University, followed by three degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), culminating in a doctorate from Stanford University in 1964.

His professional career commenced as a semiconductor engineer at Sylvania Electric Products and Texas Instruments. In 1984, he took on the role of president and chief operating officer at General Instrument. By the late 1980s, Chang relocated to Taiwan to lead the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), where he laid the groundwork for TSMC, the world's first semiconductor foundry, established in 1987.

Under Chang's visionary guidance, TSMC pioneered the foundry model of semiconductor fabrication, propelling the company to become the largest in Taiwan and a key player in the global semiconductor market. His contributions to technology development in Taiwan have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Order of Propitious Clouds in 2018 and the Order of Dr. Sun Yat-sen in 2024.
