Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Mother Angelica

Mary Angelica of the Annunciation, born Rita Antoinette Rizzo on April 20, 1923, was a remarkable figure in American religious life. As a nun of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, she dedicated her life to serving God and the Catholic community. Her journey began in a humble setting, but her vision and determination would lead her to create a global media empire.

In 1981, Mother Angelica took a bold step by broadcasting religious programming from a converted garage in Birmingham, Alabama. This modest beginning marked the inception of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), which would grow into an international Catholic cable television network. Her engaging personality and deep faith resonated with viewers, making her a beloved figure in the Catholic Church.

Beyond television, she also established WEWN, a radio network that served as a platform for disseminating Catholic teachings. Over the next two decades, Mother Angelica expanded her media outreach to include radio, internet platforms, and print publications, reaching millions around the world.

Despite facing personal challenges, including a stroke in 2001, she continued to host shows on EWTN until her retirement. Mother Angelica remained in the cloistered monastery in Hanceville, Alabama, where she lived out her final years until her passing on March 27, 2016. Her legacy endures through the countless lives she touched and the faith she inspired.
