Murder of Helen Betty Osborne

Helen Betty Osborne, affectionately known as Betty, was born on July 16, 1952, into the Cree Indigenous community of Norway House reserve. Her life, though tragically cut short, is a poignant reminder of the struggles faced by Indigenous women in Canada.

On November 13, 1971, Betty was walking down Third Street in The Pas, Manitoba, when she was kidnapped and subsequently murdered. This heinous act shocked the community and highlighted the urgent need for justice and awareness regarding violence against Indigenous peoples.
