Murdoch MacKinnon

Murdoch MacKinnon, born on March fifteenth, eighteen sixty-five, in Brooklyn, Prince Edward Island, was a prominent Canadian politician and farmer. He hailed from a family of Scottish descent, with his parents being Lauchlin MacKinnon and Mary MacDonald. After receiving his education at Prince of Wales College, he embarked on a career in farming while simultaneously engaging in public service.

MacKinnon's political journey began in the July twenty-eighth, eighteen ninety-seven General Elections, where he was elected to represent the Conservative Party in the fourth Kings District of the Provincial Legislature. His dedication to public service saw him continuously re-elected until the nineteen nineteen General Elections. During his tenure, he held significant positions, including Commissioner of Agriculture and Provincial Secretary Treasurer in the provincial cabinet from nineteen eleven to nineteen nineteen.

On September eighth, nineteen nineteen, he was appointed as the eleventh Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, a role he fulfilled until nineteen twenty-four. MacKinnon is particularly remembered for his historic decision in nineteen twenty-three when he refused assent to the Church Union Bill, a pivotal moment in the province's constitutional history. He married Perle Beecher Taylor on October twenty-first, nineteen fourteen, and they had one son together.
