Mustafa Barzani

Mustafa Barzani, born on 14 March 1903, emerged as a pivotal figure in the landscape of Kurdish nationalism. Known affectionately as Mullah Mustafa, he dedicated his life to advocating for the rights and autonomy of the Kurdish people.

In 1946, Barzani was appointed as the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), a role that positioned him at the forefront of the Kurdish revolt against the Kingdom of Iraq. His leadership was characterized by a relentless pursuit of Kurdish independence, and he became the primary political and military figure in the Kurdish separatist movement.

Throughout his life, Barzani orchestrated numerous campaigns of armed insurgency against both the Iraqi and Iranian governments. His unwavering commitment to the Kurdish cause solidified his legacy as one of the most significant political leaders in modern Kurdish history.

Mustafa Barzani's influence extended beyond his lifetime, as he continued to inspire generations of Kurdish activists and politicians until his passing on 1 March 1979.
