Myeongjong of Joseon, born Yi Hwan on May twenty-second, fifteen thirty-four, was the thirteenth monarch of the illustrious Joseon dynasty in Korea. As the second son of King Jungjong and Queen Munjeong, he was destined for a life of leadership from an early age.

His ascension to the throne occurred in fifteen forty-five, when he was merely twelve years old, following the untimely death of his elder half-brother, King Injong. Myeongjong's reign, which lasted until his death on August twelfth, fifteen sixty-seven, was marked by the challenges of a young king navigating the complexities of court politics and the expectations of his lineage. His early years were characterized by the influence of his mother, who played a crucial role in shaping his understanding of leadership.
