Nadhim Zahawi, born on June second, nineteen sixty-seven, is an Iraqi-born British politician and entrepreneur who has made significant contributions to the UK political landscape. He co-founded the international Internet-based market research firm YouGov, serving as its chief executive until February two thousand ten. With a background in chemical engineering, Zahawi transitioned into politics, becoming the Member of Parliament for Stratford-on-Avon in the two thousand ten general election.
Throughout his political career, Zahawi held various ministerial roles under prime ministers Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, and Rishi Sunak from two thousand eighteen to two thousand twenty-three. His notable positions included Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families, Secretary of State for Education, and Chancellor of the Exchequer. His tenure as Chancellor was marked by a swift withdrawal of support for Johnson, leading to a significant reshuffle in the Conservative Party.
In September two thousand twenty-two, Zahawi was appointed Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for Equalities under Truss. However, his political journey took a turn when he was dismissed from his roles in January two thousand twenty-three after breaching the Ministerial Code. Following this, he made headlines by defecting from the Conservative Party to join Reform UK in January two thousand twenty-six.
