Her career took a dramatic turn on January 6, 1994, when she was attacked by an assailant wielding a police baton, an act orchestrated by Jeff Gillooly, the then-husband of her rival, Tonya Harding. Despite the injury to her landing knee, Kerrigan demonstrated remarkable resilience and made a swift recovery. Both athletes competed in the 1994 Winter Olympics, where Kerrigan's performance culminated in a silver medal, amidst a highly publicized rivalry with gold medalist Oksana Baiul.
