Nangolo Mbumba, born on August fifteenth, nineteen forty-one, is a prominent Namibian politician who served as the fourth president of Namibia from two thousand twenty-four to two thousand twenty-five. His presidency followed the untimely death of Hage Geingob, under whom Mbumba had held the position of second vice president from two thousand eighteen until his ascension to the presidency in two thousand twenty-four.
A dedicated member of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), Mbumba has had a distinguished career in various government ministries. His leadership roles include serving as the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development from nineteen ninety-three to nineteen ninety-six, Minister of Finance from nineteen ninety-six to two thousand three, Minister of Information and Broadcasting from two thousand three to two thousand five, Minister of Education from two thousand five to two thousand ten, and Minister of Safety and Security from two thousand ten to two thousand twelve.
In two thousand twelve, Mbumba was appointed as the secretary-general of SWAPO, a position he held until two thousand seventeen. His political journey continued when he was appointed vice president in two thousand eighteen, succeeding Nickey Iyambo, who left due to health issues. Upon Geingob's passing in February two thousand twenty-four, Mbumba took on the presidency, although he later announced that he would not seek election for a full term later that year.
