Nataša Pirc Musar, born on May ninth, nineteen sixty-eight, is a prominent Slovenian lawyer, author, and politician who made history by becoming the first woman to serve as the President of Slovenia in December twenty twenty-two.
Before ascending to the presidency, Pirc Musar held the position of Slovenia’s Information Commissioner from two thousand four to two thousand fourteen. During her tenure, she gained recognition for her staunch defense of freedom of information and privacy laws, establishing herself as a key figure in these critical areas.
Following her role as Information Commissioner, she founded her own law firm, where she represented several high-profile clients, including Melania Trump, the Slovenian-born First Lady of the United States, and members of the Slovenian Social Democrats. Additionally, from two thousand fifteen to two thousand sixteen, she served as the president of the Slovenian Red Cross.
Politically, Pirc Musar is viewed as an independent and liberal-leaning leader, advocating for human rights, the rule of law, transparency, and robust democratic institutions. Although she is not formally affiliated with any political party, she has garnered support from various centre-left and pro-European groups.
In the second round of the twenty twenty-two presidential election, she triumphed over Anže Logar of the Slovenian Democratic Party, securing her position as the President of Slovenia.
