Her early education took place at the Collège International Marie de France, followed by a bachelor's degree in Communications from Concordia University, which she completed in nineteen seventy-five.

Petrowski's professional journey began at Le Journal de Montréal, but it was her tenure at Le Devoir starting in nineteen seventy-six that solidified her reputation, particularly in the culture section.
